The Northland Age

HUMANS OF KAITAIA The Far North sojourn is over

- By Ruby Saxon

Iam from Picton, near Blenheim. When I was four and a half my dad got a new job up north at Kaitaia College. So we moved up here, and when I turned five, I started to go to Ahipara School.

I like to play Minecraft, go travelling, and play with my friends. My favourite subject at school is technology, and I ove learning new things on my Chromebook. It is a challenge for me to stay focused, so sometimes I need to take a break . . . I read a book or play a game.

What makes me special is that I am different, I am a good thinker and very creative. I love singing, dancing and art. My friends would say that I am sometimes emotional, but I am still a really nice friend.

Last year I won the speech competition, and I was really proud of that. Then I entered a photography competition at the library. I won first place for the children’s’ section, and won $100.

When I grow up I want to have

lots of friends and to be a vet. I like animals.

My first long trip was going to Europe this year with my dad. I went to lots of different places, like Paris and Rome. We visited 10 countries. The food was kind of nice, like pizza and gelato, and kind of gross, like snails and frogs’ legs. My favourite experiences were looking at the Eiffel Tower and buying snow globes for my little brother and sister.

I can’t wait to move back down south, because we are going to be closer to my family. My Nana Pam and Aunty Kylie are very special to me. I love my Nana because we do so many cool things together, and she always treats me with love and aroha. My parents are teaching me to be kind to my siblings, to be kind to others, and to appreciate what I have.

I want people to know that they should just go with the flow of life. Take all the challenges life gives you, and ask for your help if you need it. Follow your destiny, and do what you love to do.
