Big purse draws them out in force

Players from all over the province came north to try and get their mitts on the $2220 prize purse up for grabs in the Far North RSA Open Drawn Pairs Tournament last month.

The event held on Saturday, August 31, saw players from the Kamo, Whangarei RSA and Taniwha clubs arrive in force and duke it out for the not insignific­ant prize money with the local dartists.

The first game saw some good pairings with Alf Peri and Jeff Hobson claiming 1st place over Kane Henderson and Frank Giovinazzo in 2nd, with Libby Popata, Ian Webb, Harry Tepania and Jemma Percy all finishing 3rd=; while the concession round was won by Jo Steed and Deano Kaaho with Richard Martin and Ben Gibson in 2nd.

Round 2 winners were Chris Silich and I Webb 1st, with Betty Lee and Amran Perry 2nd, and David Tepania, Sam Ruke, F Giovinazzo and Harry Tepania 3rd=; while the concession round winners were Doug George and Tom Lee 1st, with Tim Wardford and A Peri 2nd.

The third and final game was an exciting tussle with Niki Puru and Dave Ihaaka forced to settle for the runners up place to eventual winners, James Miller with Giovinazzo, while 3rd= placegette­rs were H Tepania, J Steed, S Ruke and K Henderson; with the concession round won by D Tepania and Dobbie Rollo, C Silich and R Martin finishing runners up.

Also, first 180 of the day prizes for, men: A Perry, women: J Steed; and, highest finish, men: D Tepania 152, women: J Steed 70.

The Far North RSA thanked all the participan­ts and sponsors.
