The Northland Age

Rain for some, not for most

-

Very light rain has fallen in a number of places around the Far North over the last 48 hours, but some places got a lot more than that.

A motorist told the Northland Age that torrential rain had fallen in the Mangamuka Gorge on Monday evening. Any that fell on the northern side of the ranges had had no visible impact on the Awanui River in Kaitaia as of yesterday morning.

Another motorist reported rain of similar proportions between Herekino and Kaitaia, also on Monday evening. It stopped abruptly in Pukepoto Rd, he said, but the road immediately west (and downhill) of CBEC’s nursery had resembled a river.

The Northland Regional Council reported a fall of 6mm at Larmer Rd, just outside Kaitaia, while Waihopo received 1.5mm and Takahue 0.5mm. The Northland Age recorded 0.9mm, which fell around midday on Tuesday.

The outlook for tomorrow and Friday in Kaitaia is for possible afternoon showers, with “a few showers” developing on Saturday.
