Young Oscar reels in Brljevich Trophy

-

A bolshie 2m swell produced washing machine-like sea conditions for the Brljevich Family Trophy overnight fishing tournament earlier this month.

A total of 61 members and three visitors fished the 24-hour 90 Mile Beach Surfcasting Club event — which had the Brljevich Trophy up for grabs by one of the club’s junior anglers — over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, February 8-9, eventually weighing in a total of 38 snapper, nine kahawai, four trevally and one parore.

The heaviest snapper and first place on the day went to Stephen Heka with a 9.18kg specimen of which local commentator Jack Rogers was unable to resist saying, “I am sure he would have liked to present that at the upcoming Snapper Bonanza.”

Second place with heaviest trevally Tony Brown’s 4.75kg fish, while third with heaviest kahawai was Jason Skelton 2.02kg.
