The Northland Age

A thoroughly good time

- Continued on A8

I found attending the Kaitaia Charity Boxing event on Saturday night uplifting on several counts.

Firstly, the spirit of the battling warriors was inspirational. Next, the effort the guests made to present themselves nicely, the ladies in high heels and fine dresses, while I even saw men wearing bow ties. Although alcohol flowed freely, it was always under control, and I never saw anyone blind drunk or

been foretold in the Bible, and it is foretold that our woes shall get worse as humankind shall become lovers of themselves, believing the solutions to the world’s problems are wealth, power and control, as money has become their god.

Spiritual love, compassion, honesty, responsibility, kindness, respect, etc, is dying fast, just as the Lord Jesus claimed it would in the end days, so what is the answer? I am of the view that we have choices and a conscience, so we know right from wrong, and our choices start in our homes, to raise honest, healthy minds, leading to good choices as we grow, resulting in better families, communities and country. We need leadership, but such honest leadership is not coming from politics or religion, just as the Holy Creator Father warned thousands of years ago.

Yes, this world is facing great problems in the future, just as the Holy Creator Father has foretold, and making a nuisance of themselves.

The food was good, the MC entertaining, and the boxing club organisation spot on.

Forget all this clap-trap about divisiveness. I was impressed by the crowd’s inclusiveness. Everyone had a thoroughly good time, while at the same time were raising funds for our sports and leisure trust. I did see a FNDC staff member keeping an eye on the proceedings, and

that we will all die, because of our transgressions. Was it not politics and religion that murdered Jesus Christ, just as foretold many years before the event took place?

Sadly, I do not see any change going into the future because of the evil hearts and minds of humankind, once again foretold by both the Holy Creator Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, as good and evil cannot share the same bed, as love and hate oppose each other, just as injustice and justice cannot reign together, just as the Holy Creator Father’s spiritual love is opposed to the love of humankind.

It is not for me to judge others, only to ask the question, are they being honest or are they lying to themselves, for their own glory and selfishness at the expense of others?

I am proud to confess that the Holy Creator Father is my father and Jesus Christ is my brother. As the father states, we are like lost sheep being led to slaughter, and we will all die, rich concluded that he must have been very pleased with the superb organisation of the event.

Just to add an encore after the event, I managed to reverse a safe driver’s van, complete with a load of passengers, smack into a police van, much to the raucous cheers of onlookers. Damn ... I hadn’t even had a drink!

and poor alike. We bring nothing into this world and take nothing with us, so what good does it do us to sell our soul to the devil? Is not our spirit worth more to us?

Jesus Christ’s words, not mine, in the Bible, Book of John chapter 13 verses 31 to 35: ‘A new commandment I give to you, that we love each other, as He loves us.’ One does not see this great love, that He, Jesus, commanded in this world; that’s why we are facing ever increasing problems here in New Zealand and worldwide.

Thank you Holy Father and the Lord Jesus, that I am neither rich nor poor, that I am honest and responsible, and hopefully a humble person with love and compassion in my heart, and trust in you as my provider and protector.

John Bassett Diggers’ Valley Beyond disingenuous

I use to walk with friends along the waterfront of Paihia. Several years ago, while out walking, we were surprised to find we could no longer walk past the Maritime Building because the deck had been closed in by the new restaurant/bar CBK. I was a bit indignant and asked the manager about it.

I was assured that Far North Holding Ltd intended to build a new public boardwalk over the water in front of the restaurant, but for the time being we could walk through the restaurant. (Not a particularly satisfying solution for either party.) Now, three or so years later, FNHL unveils its expansive redevelopment plan for the Paihia waterfront. To my knowledge, the public was not consulted on what it would like included, but has been consulted on what they think of the plan. Needless to say there have been a lot of legitimate concerns expressed, but from my perspective, the plan at least included public access along the waterside of the Maritime Building.

However, one of those other legitimate concerns expressed by many members of the public was that they did not want to see any more buildings placed on the waterfront. Why any local authority would want to build on the waterfront in this time of climate change and rising sea levels is beyond belief, but FNHL has agreed with public sentiment and deleted the buildings from the plan.

One might think that this belated exercise in democracy produced a satisfactory compromise on this one aspect of the proposed plan. But hold on, now FNHL is saying because they won’t be building more leasable space on the waterfront they will no longer fund the reclamation to provide public open space, including the restoration of a public walkway past the Maritime Building.

This smacks of a petulant child picking up their marbles and going home because they lost. But it’s far more serious than that.

FNHL has told Focus Paihia that the community can still have its reclamation if it wants to raise the $3.1 million for it. That is beyond disingenuous. It is deplorable behaviour by an arm of our local government, reneging on a promise, and once again demonstrating that FNHL disregards the communities it was created to assist, disregards democratic process and ignores its legal responsibilities. At a minimum FNHL must fund and reinstate the public access to the foreshore along the waterside of the Maritime Building. They have already reaped financial gain over the years from leasing that public area to CBK, therefore have already accrued some funds toward restoration of public access. If the Far North District Council won’t step in to correct this travesty by their commercial arm, then I’m all for demanding the Minister of Local Government assign a commissioner to sort it out.
