The tennis season is about to kick off and will be welcomed in by our open club day on Saturday, October 15 from 11am to 3pmish.

Everyone is welcome to the tennis and squash club. Come along family and friends to enjoy some fun activities out on the tennis court, play some table tennis, and cheer on our members battling it out on the courts to decide the Kaitaia Squash Club champions, says Lesley McCormick, the club’s treasurer and secretary.

A barbecue will be in action through the afternoon and the bar will be open.

We’d love to see adults, children, and families throughout the community enjoying our amazing club, says McCormick. All equipment is available at the club so if people don’t have a racquet it’s not an issue.

A membership special will be running for this day only and available to people who have never been a member of the club.

Following on from open day will be the start of “Tennis Business House”. Sign a team up or come along to the first rally night on Thursday, October 20 at 5.30pm.

If you’d like to play but don’t have a team we will find one for you on this first night, says McCormick. Competition will start the following week on Thursday, October 27.

After Business House has begun it is time for our youth members to dominate the courts by enrolling in junior tennis coaching on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning Wednesday, October 26. Coaching for 12 years and under will run on Thursdays after school and coaching for college-aged students (12-19 years) will run on Wednesday afternoons. Registration forms are available at the club or on Facebook.

Club nights will run every Monday for tennis and squash from 5.30pm from now on. The bar will be open and members can come along and enjoy a game of one or all of the sports on offer.

As always, the club relies on help from all our members to keep the club looking spic and span and so a club working bee will be buzzing on Sunday, October 30 from 11am onwards. Please come and lend a hand. Our building and grounds would be very grateful for you participation.

Womens squash night begins on Tuesday, November 1 from 5.30-6.30pm. This is primarily for women who are keen to start squash or are returning to squash after many years. It will run for six weeks and free coaching support is available for everyone each week.
