I agree with Felicity Foy (letters October 13). Plant matter uses CO2 and gives off oxygen. So this idea that only pinus radiata and things like that are worthy of whatever skulldugge­ry the parliament­arians think is just plain madness. Did you know the biggest carbon sink in the world is the grasslands? Because there is so much of them. And do not think that the huge farms of grains — corn wheat rice, etc — over the world are doing damage. They are soaking up the carbon your car is emitting faster than you know. Plant natives or exotics.

It is all the same to nature even if our government does not understand. Sylvia Bryan
