Spring brings flourish of floral entries

-

It was a beautiful day for The Oruru Garden Club November meeting at Barbara Masters home and garden at Taipa. Ten members were present, and it was nice to welcome one visitor, said club spokeswoman Lynne McDonald.

There was a great selection of spring flowers presented for competition again. It was also nice to see more entries with the better weather.

There were four amazing picnic baskets for the Melbourne Cup entered in the Decorative Section all gaining full marks, and full of lovely goodies for a day at the races, said McDonald.

Anderson did a fine job extracting money for fruit, veges, jams and plants.

The raffle was won by Lynn Hill, who received a lovely Calibrachoa – “Pinktastic”.

There were no November birthdays, and Lynley Stephens was still not present to collect her birthday gift.

We had a discussion about a venue for our Christmas Lunch, deciding on November 29 at Awanui Hotel, said McDonald. Then followed a sweep stake for the Melbourne Cup. The lucky winners were, Lynne McDonald, Barbara Masters and Lynn Hill.

Everyone enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea, and walk around the garden.

The lucky cup was won by Val Folkard who received a Grandessa “The Grand Daisy” and visitor Pam Smith had the lucky mug, and received a Calibrachoa “White Pink Vein” both thrilled with their gains.

The December meeting will be at the home of hostess Val Folkard at Taipa at 11am for the club’s Christmas lunch. There will only be a Decorative Competition, it will be a table setting for the Christmas table, with a choice of real or artificial flowers. Roll call is a Christmas gift for exchange.
