New pump track for Awanui

-

Tamariki can look forward to testing their skills on a new pump track being built at Awanui. Construction began early last month in the town park at the intersection of State Highway 1 and 10 and it is hoped work will be completed before the summer holiday break.

The pump track will be the third for Te Hiku with others opening this year at Kaitāia and Ahipara. Unlike skateboard bowls and cycle tracks, pump tracks are designed for bikes, scooters and skateboards and can be ridden simply by ‘pumping’ rather than pedalling to create momentum and flow around the track.

The track is in addition to other park upgrades, including a revamped playground with swings, climbing towers and slides; public barbeques, picnic tables and seating; and renovated toilets.
