Weather extremes challenge golfers

-

Summer arrived for the Houhora Golf Club’s Sunday competition with hot temperatures, clear skies and light winds.

Taking full benefit of the ideal conditions was club president Denis Musson who finished first with 73 nett from John McIntyre on 76, and Neil St George — also 76 but losing on countback.

Richard Thompson took out both the novelty prizes with closest to the pin and longest putt.

Two of the club’s ladies took out the major prizes in last Wednesday’s 9-hole haggle with Yvonne Just coming home first with 25 stableford points ahead of Myna Bristow — 23, and Denis Musson — 20.

Nearest the pin was Ivor Bates however the longest putt was not claimed.

The club has been advised that the Champ of Champs Competition scheduled for this weekend has been put off until next year due to extensive damage to the Pines Golf course in Whangārei during last week’s flooding.
