Kaitaia trio blossom in floral design competition
The Kaitaia Floral Art Club had three members compete in the Northland Designer of the Year and some travelled down to Whangā rei as spectators. All four Northland clubs — Kaitaia, Kerikeri, Doubtless Bay and Whangārei — took part.
It was held at the Kensington Sports Arena on November 11 and 12. The theme was “In the 70s”.
Lyn Best won the intermediate class with Happy Days; Raewyn Pennell was 2nd in senior class with Disco Queen; and Lois Stather-Dunn was awarded the Doris Bollschweiler trophy for most innovative novice design — Flower Power.
The club is very proud of their successes, said Gloria Mitchell, club spokeswoman.

Nicholas, Doubtless Bay.
Intermediate: 1st Lyn Best, Kaitaia, 2nd Wendy Maron, Whangārei, 3rd Christine Squire, Kerikeri.
Novice: 1st Judith Stewart, Whangārei, 2nd Lynette Pike, Kerikeri, 3rd Trish Alder, Kerikeri.
Seniors: 1st Karen Hawtin, Kerikeri, 2nd Raewyn Pennell, Kaitaia, 3rd Jenny Phillips Kerikeri.
