Kaitaia trio blossom in floral design competitio­n

The Kaitaia Floral Art Club had three members compete in the Northland Designer of the Year and some travelled down to Whangā rei as spectators. All four Northland clubs — Kaitaia, Kerikeri, Doubtless Bay and Whangārei — took part.

It was held at the Kensington Sports Arena on November 11 and 12. The theme was “In the 70s”.

Lyn Best won the intermedia­te class with Happy Days; Raewyn Pennell was 2nd in senior class with Disco Queen; and Lois Stather-Dunn was awarded the Doris Bollschwei­ler trophy for most innovative novice design — Flower Power.

The club is very proud of their successes, said Gloria Mitchell, club spokeswoma­n.

Winner of DOY in the open class: 1st Janice Walker, Whangārei, 2nd Rosie Speedy, Whangā rei, 3rd Sharon

Nicholas, Doubtless Bay.

Intermedia­te: 1st Lyn Best, Kaitaia, 2nd Wendy Maron, Whangārei, 3rd Christine Squire, Kerikeri.

Novice: 1st Judith Stewart, Whangārei, 2nd Lynette Pike, Kerikeri, 3rd Trish Alder, Kerikeri.

Seniors: 1st Karen Hawtin, Kerikeri, 2nd Raewyn Pennell, Kaitaia, 3rd Jenny Phillips Kerikeri.
