Modest haul in ideal conditions

-

Fishing the 90 Mile in November and December is generally known to be very slow even with perfect weather and sea conditions, and a small tide of 2.6 metres. There were 29 club members and three visitors fishing the Anzco Foods-sponsored 24-hour overnight competition, fishing from 9am Saturday November 12 to 9am Sunday the 13th.

Nine snapper, 24 trevally and 20 kahawai were weighed in. There were more fish caught during the day than caught overnight, which was quite interesting with conditions for fishing just perfect with very little wind.

The heaviest snapper and 1st prize went to Jordan Hyland with a nice fish of 6.97 kg, 2nd prize with the heaviest trevally was junior angler Oscar Parlour — 4.57kg and 3rd prize with the heaviest kahawai was Dan Lloyd — 1.34kg.

Other prizewinners were: 4th prize Keith Williams — snapper 5.54kg, 5th prize Gareth McKenzie

— trevally 4.19kg, 6th prize junior angler Arlen Vea- kahawai 1.29kg, 7th Kurt Lunjevich — snapper 3.21kg, 8th Phil Sauer — trevally 3.68kg, 9th Dave Hallett — kahawai 1.25kg, 10th junior angler Skylan Parker — snapper 2.36kg.

Dan Lloyd won the haggle of a 1.90kg kahawai with his 1.34kg kahawai.

Anzco Foods put on a very nice spread with a choice of venison and lamb roast and bread buns with lots of salads, dressings and gravy. There were also 17 meat packs given away to lucky anglers and fish winners.

Steve Maisey represented Anzco Foods as Yulette How was not able to attend but was happy to see junior winners on the fish prize list. A very big thank you to Anzco Foods for their very generous sponsorship.

Coming up this Sunday, November 27, is the Wapapakauri Hotelsponsored field day, fishing from 8am-3pm over a 2.9 metre 12 noon high tide.
