Trevally takes top prize

-

Early-morning rain and very little fish activity may be one of the reasons for a small turn out of anglers for the Waipapakauri Hotel sponsored club field day which was held on Sunday November 27, fishing from 8am to 3pm over a 2.9 metre, 12.10 high tide.

The weather improved as the day progressed till midafternoon when the winds got up.

There were 17 club members and one visitors fishing, weighing in a total of no snapper, 20 trevally and 10 kahawai.

As there were no snapper caught the heaviest trevally took out 1st place by Dan Lloyd with a fish of 4kg, 2nd prize with the heaviest kahawai was James Parlour 2.40kg.

Other prizewinners were 3rd prize Keith Williams — trevally 3.44kg, 4th Jason Skelton — kahawai 1.97kg, 5th junior angler Oscar Parlour — trevally 2.55kg, 6th Gareth McKenzie — kahawai 1.95kg, 7th Dave Hallett — trevally 2.35kg, 8th Miko Rogers — kahawai 1.75kg, 9th Neville De Ridder — trevally 2.05kg, 10th Roger Hall — kahawai 1.63kg.

Dan Lloyd won the haggle of a 4.5kg trevally with his 4kg trevally.

There were two fisherman who were not able to weigh in fish, Milton Arnold and Kurt Lunjevich, who missed the 3pm cut-off time at the weigh station as they were trapped behind a bogged vehicle on the detour track around the bluff rocks.

The award for most active angler went to Gareth McKenzie, weighing in a total of 10.64 kg of fish runner-up was Keith Williams with 7.92kg.

Coming up this Sunday, December 4 is the club’s final club day for the year — the picnic day from 9am to 1pm fishing a 2.6 metre 7.30am high tide. The prizes are Christmas hams and it is for club members only. Members families are welcome to join the members for a social afternoon.
