‘Petrified’ worker lured knife-wielding man away

-

A CONSTRUCTION worker feared for his life as he confronted a knife-wielding man with a crowbar to stop him stabbing more people.

Witnesses say Jade Lynn, 22, is a hero after he grabbed a pinchbar from his truck and took on the 27-year-old man who had stabbed at least two people.

Speaking soon after his ordeal, Mr Lynn said the man had come ‘‘swinging’’ at him with a meat cleaver and a small skeleton knife.

‘‘I was petrified,’’ he said. ‘‘I’m still in shock about the whole thing.’’

Mr Lynn was driving a truck to work when he saw the chaos unfold.

‘‘There were heaps of elderly people lying around,’’ he said.

‘‘There was a lady sitting on the pavement bleeding and crying, and a guy up in the car got stabbed. I was driving and didn’t see the stabbing, but I saw this dark fella with two knives. ’’

Mr Lynn said he feared for his life, but he wanted to get the man away from members of the public.

‘‘He was really aggressive. He was coming at me with a big meat cleaver and a small skeleton knife,’’ he said. ‘‘I was petrified, but I was trying to get him away from the traffic and people.

‘‘I was swinging the pole [pinch-bar] around trying to keep him back.’’

Mr Lynn hit the man across the side of the neck with the bar, but it did not stop him.

‘‘He was still coming at me when the cops Tasered him. He was still going [after being Tasered] and then turned on the cops and started swinging the knives at the cops.’’

Mr Lynn said he was about a metre away when the man was shot twice by police.

Witness Kelvin Mcelroy said Mr Lynn was a ‘‘hero’’ for trying to stop the attacker. ‘‘A car had crashed into the wall and this guy got out of a truck and said ‘Get down’ to the man carrying the knives.’’

The knife-wielding man nored Mr Lynn and ‘‘went him’’, Mr Mcelroy said.

Kelly Mcguinness, who was taking her three-year-old son to daycare, said she had stopped at the lights in front of Mr Lynn and the attacker.

‘‘I was scared, but I felt protected by the guy with the pole. He was holding the guy back until the cops turned up.’’ igfor
