Massey to sell Napier property

-

MASSEY University is putting its property in the Napier suburb of Onekawa up for auction.

The 7494 square metre property in Prebensen Dr includes 1820sqm of buildings – office and teaching blocks, library and art block.

There is also a five-bay workshop and a prefabricated classroom, a small caretaker’s building and pump house.

It has a Government valuation of $2.25 million and will be auctioned on site on Thursday.

Massey University communications director James Gardiner said the university was committed to Hawke’s Bay and developing its strong links through relationships with councils, businesses, the agrifood sector and its large and active alumni base in the region.

‘‘The Onekawa property has been surplus to requirements since we relocated our College of Education operations to the main Eastern Institute of Technology campus in Taradale,’’ Gardiner said.

A few months ago it was used as a base for the Electoral Commission.

Colliers International agent Rob Nankervis said the site had been rezoned to large format, making it perfect for large retail stores.

Mitre 10 Mega, a marine retailer, Farmlands and Hire Pool are situated close by and the site fronts the main route from the Hawke’s Bay Expressway to Napier, with rear road access into the One- kawa industrial area via Ford Rd.

‘‘The large flat site has a sizeable 77m of street frontage and offers a high-profile position in an area with several large-format retail stores,’’ Nankervis said.

Planners were looking at creating a four-lane highway along Prebensen Dr and extending Ford Rd through Severn St to Prebensen Dr, which would make the property even more of a prime spot.

‘‘The site would suit a large format retailer wanting to move into Napier or an investor or developer looking to take advantage of a highprofile site.’’
