A service check that paid off nicely

Booking in at Seaview’s Atomix has ended up with a customer getting a nice, new inflatable for the harbour.

GRANT Tregurtha of Lower Hutt is searching for a bit more storage space in his garage after picking up a 2.3 metre inflatable boat in a competition run by Seaview’s Atomix Service Centre.

The prize, valued at about $1200, included the Atomix 230 inflatable pontoon boat, oars, a pump and repair kit, with two life jackets and an Abu Garcia spin combo fishing rod.

Mr Tregurtha owns a ski boat which he had brought into the centre for a service. He said it was a great surprise to win the competition, which was open to boat owners who booked their craft in for an annual service before the end of March.

‘‘It was certainly a surprise, it was fantastic.’’

Mr Tregurtha is a keen boatie and also enjoys fishing and sailing, generally putting in to Wellington harbour from the nearest ramp in Seaview.

‘‘The harbour is not too far away and there is always lots to do – especially when the weather is right.’’

His only problem now is where to store his new inflatable.

‘‘But that’s a good problem to have,’’ he says.

Atomix service manager Chris Conroy said the competition was aimed at raising awareness of Atomix’s new service centre, which opened last year.

The company was also keen to make it known that the service centre was available to former customers of the nearby Powerboat Centre, which closed down last year.

The Atomix Service Centre offers a pick up and drop off service for boats, and is giving a commitment to get boats serviced within two weeks of the initial booking.

‘‘We’ll guarantee that you can get your boat in within two weeks of booking, so you are not having to wait three weeks to get your boat serviced.’’

The 2.3 metre inflatable won by Mr Tregurtha is one of a range of sold by Atomix, Mr Conroy says.

‘‘We’ve got inflatable fold up boats which are up to 3.8 metres, and then we’ve got (the larger) RIB rigid hull inflatable boats, and then a range of Atomix fibreglass boats, which range from about 4.5 metres to 8 metres.’’

Atomix has also recently begun selling a new range of aluminium boats built in Nelson by DNA Boats, which come in both pontoon and mono hull formats.

‘‘They go from dinghies right up to the big 8.5 metre mono hulls.

‘‘They are built to handle rough water and designed to take quite a bit of punishment.’’ Atomix is at Unit 7, 100 Port Rd, Seaview, phone 560 3500. For more information go to: www.atomixboats.co.nz
