Big targets ahead for Bromley

- TIM BARTON

JOHN BROMLEY might be back in the limelight this weekend.

The Taupo owner-breeder will have two runners in the Levin Classic today and another in tomorrow’s Wanganui Cup.

Bromley, who had a 10 per cent share in Darci Brahma and a half share in Princess Coup, has Julinksy Prince and Park Princess in the $250,000 Group I Levin Classic and Thorn Prince in the $50,000 listed Wanganui Cup (2040m).

It is a notable achievement for both Bromley, who bred the trio and their Marton trainer, Fraser Auret.

Auret does not have a big team but is on a roll, with eight wins this month, and has four runners in black type races this weekend, with Thorn Prince joined in the Wanganui Cup by Mini Pearl.

Julinsky Prince ($18) and Park Princess ($31) are both at long odds but Julinsky Prince, in particular, has much in his favour.

The Darci Brahma colt has been performing well in good company, will race in blinkers for the first time and has the inside barrier, after drawing out in his previous two starts. He still won a rating 65 1600m at Otaki at his last run and wasn’t far away when fifth in the Wellington Guineas (1500m), while he was never clear when unplaced in the Hawke’s Bay Guineas (1400m).

‘‘He’s always looked like a horse who would need blinkers at some stage,’’ Auret said.

‘‘He seems well and I thought it was a good effort, with 58kg, against the older horses last start.’’
