Manning eyeing trip across the Tasman

PUMP UP THE VOLUME ha made good progress this season but needs to bump up his bankrol if he’s to earn himself an oversea jaunt.

The promising son of Sava beel has placed in all three start this preparatio­n for Cambridg trainer Ralph Manning, who i considerin­g a trip farther afiel for the four-year-old.

“Australia is a possibilit­y an I could whip him over there if h makes me some more money – own 75 per cent of him,” he said.

The winner of three of hi 11 starts, Pump Up The Volum came back from a break to ru second at Hawera before he wa again in the runner-up position a Ellerslie.

He then acquitted himsel well when stepping up in grad to finish third in his open clas debut behind Intransige­nt an John Gray in the Kiwifruit Cup a Tauranga.

“He sat three and four wide th whole trip in his first run ove ground,” Manning said.

“He’s still only a Rating 8 horse and he’ll run at Waipa [nex Saturday] and then the Tauma runui Cup.”

Meanwhile, stablemate Innova tion has taken no harm from he unplaced run in the Listed Tau ranga Classic.

“She’s as bright as a button an it was the wrong option to stay o the rail,” Manning said.

“It was a gamble you take an Leith [Innes, jockey] had walke the track and it was his call. H came to us and said this was a option and we ran with it. That’ the way it goes sometimes.”

A previous winner of the Liste Ag Challenge Stakes at Wanganu Innovation remains on track for second tilt at the Group III Winte Cup. She beat all but Art Beat i last year’s Riccarton feature.
