Lorde’s little sister picks up the microphone
LORDE’S little sister has again proven that creative talent runs in the YelichO’Connor family.
India Yelich-O’Connor, 15, made her musical debut at the weekend, posting a cover of Christina Aguilera and A Great Big World’s Say Something on music sharing website Soundcloud.
She linked to the cover on her blog, Genres of India, and is already receiving rave reviews.
India told Fairfax NZ she ‘‘merely put this cover up as something for a little bit of fun’’ but she did not want to discuss her musical pursuits further.
Most listeners’ comments on the Soundcloud page were favourable. Myah BaileyHanley commented, ‘‘Guess this talent runs in the family, wow!!!!’’
Older sister Ella, 17, also known as Lorde, has been nominated for four Grammys at Monday’s (NZ time) awards, including song of the year for Royals.
A feature on Lorde by music website FasterLouder said India could be mistaken for the family celebrity.
She was ‘‘deeply involved in theatre’’ and had ‘‘a way of commanding your attention even among a group more than adept on that front.’’
The family also consists of father, Vic, an older sister, Jerry, and a younger brother, Angelo.
Mother Sonja Yelich is an award-winning poet.
