So-called social housing a crock

-

Anyone with half a brain knows where the government sale of HNZ houses is headed.

They will be given to community groups that can’t afford to buy and maintain them; they will have to find a funding source, which will not be the government.

This leaves community groups, entering into funding arrangements with investors, who will require profit otherwise why would anyone invest. This profit will come from government on one hand through accommodation The Dominion Post.

The biggest losers in all this are the Wellington region’s commercial sector and unless there is a reverting to the fun and flavour which made the Wellington sevens such a great occasion, and promoted a full house, the relocation of the IRB Sevens circuit event seems imminent.

As a volunteer for the sevens for several years, including the latest, it might very well be my last. Thanks for the memories. MICHAEL ROMANOS

Silverstream bariatric surgery in New Zealand, are able to get it government funded. Increasing the access seems essential, however it should not be seen as an excuse to become morbidly obese and some of the temptation of cheap low quality foods needs to be reduced.

When discussing this, our 7-year-old son, said that the cost of healthy food needs to go down and the cost of unhealthy foods such as soft drinks, needs to go up. Out of the mouths of babes.

Hopefully our health minister will understand such a straightforward plan and recommend a tax policy to this effect, thereby paying for the extra surgery with the revenue from the poor quality foods which caused the obesity in the first place. MELANIE YOUNG
