Anderton in serious condition
WINGATUI thoroughbred trainer Steve Anderton is on life support in Dunedin Hospital after being injured in an accident at his stable yesterday.
Anderton, 44, was found at about 6.30am unconscious at the side loading door of his horse float at the stable in Wingatui Rd.
The hydraulic operated door was dropped to load horses and he may have been struck by the door. Anderton was taken by ambulance to Dunedin hospital.
His wife, Claire and two children were flown to Dunedin by helicopter from Te Anau, where they had been on holiday.
Anderton has been training for 17 years, the past nine in a sole capacity after a partnership with his father, Hec.
He trains The Diamond One, a candidate for the White Robe Lodge Handicap, the feature race at the Otago meeting on Friday.
