TO THE POINT

-

Ask any visitor about the major attractions in Wellington and you can be sure one will be the waterfront walkway. It is unique. I fail to understand why the Wellington City Council supports the development of some buildings on the walkway, especially so close to the boat harbour. Surely it is time to stop wasting time and money and put a stop to the proposal. DAVID UNDERWOOD, Kelburn My deepest sympathy to Jane Bowron on the loss of her beloved cat Benecio. I can understand her great grief. Unfortunately, society seldom recognises the sorrow that can be felt when someone has to part with a pet. Animals can be just as important to a person as humans, but such close feelings are often regarded as trivial, shameful or out of place. INGRID BRABYN, Stokes Valley David Shearer, David Cunliffe and now Russel Norman. All former Labour and Green Party leaders. All still in Parliament. All forgotten, but not gone. IAN McDONALD, Palmerston North Tom Scott’s cartoon comment (February 3) is right. We’re unlikely to see a Hollywood-produced Iraqi Sniper. Perhaps the slaughtering of thousands of Nigerian villagers by Boko Haram African Islamists has celluloid potential, yet that too is unlikely to reach Western screens. Seems we’ll have to settle for Jihadi Joe’s home-made execution videos, which might also warrant Scott’s rebuke. JIM YOUNG, Belmont It’s a real pity the stadium looks like it will be half empty for the sevens this weekend, even though tickets are being promoted heavily. I guess Wellingtonians have voted, and when the sevens licence comes up for renewal, the New Zealand sevens tournament will move to where supporters appreciate it more. STEPHEN YETMAN, Brooklyn
