Scots College gets its own growth spurt
THIS Friday is the perfect opportunity for boys to get a close look at the benefits of an education at Scots College.
The Discover Scots Prep open day allows boys to attend the Years 1-6 classes during the day and see what it is that makes the college a special place, preparatory school principal Matt Allen says.
‘‘They’ll be buddied up and go into the classes for the day where they’ll take part in everything.’’
(There is a Year 7 and 8 open day on August 14 as well but their programme is slightly different.)
Allen says there has been a rapid rise in the number of students at the prep school with 24 boys enrolled in the last three months taking the numbers to 115.
One reason for the rise is the increasing awareness that Scots has a prep school facility and parents like that the ages at the school range from five up to 18. Allen says they also like that there are smaller classrooms, an emphasis on extracurricular activities (every teacher coaches a sports team) and the values-based approach the Presbyterian school works from.
Also key, Allen says, is that Scots is a PYP school which is a primary years programme which comes under the umbrella of the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. Its international curriculum makes transferring from other IB schools easy.
‘‘We also have specialist teachers and subjects such as a PE teacher, music programmes and all boys in the prep school take Spanish.’’
The school is also introducing Year 6 students to programming and coding courses.
