THE MIDDLE school at Queen Margaret College has a very important role for students in ensuring they are in a quality learning environment.

Middle school head Rena Day says Years 7-10 are vital ones for students.

‘‘Studies prove that a happy student is statistically more likely to achieve at a higher level, so for Queen Margaret College, curriculum and pastoral care will always go hand in hand.’’

Year 7 students get the advantage of specialist teachers for each subject from mathematics and science through to Chinese and drama.

‘‘The holistic approach to learning at Queen Margaret College means that everything has a purpose,’’ Day says. ‘‘Each year level is a wellplanned step in the middle school journey, with the ultimate goal being to prepare students for the dual pathway of the IB Diploma and NCEA in Senior School.’’

The academic programme is balanced by a pastoral network of form teacher, year level dean and middle school head. As well, students from pre-school through to Year 13 become members of one of five houses and strive for house supremacy across performing arts, sports and academic excellence.

‘‘Middle school students are in the unique position of having mentors from the senior school and being mentors for the junior school.
