Morris got justice says Millie

- KELLY DENNETT

MILLIE ELDER-HOLMES says her boyfriend ‘‘got justice’’ after Michael Murray was found guilty of Connor Morris’s murder.

A jury of eight men and four women took just four hours deliberating before returning a guilty verdict yesterday in the High Court at Auckland.

The public gallery was packed and there was a strong security presence at the court to hear the forewoman announce that the jury unanimously found Michael Thrift Murray guilty of murder. Justice Edwin Wylie promptly entered a conviction and remanded him for sentencing.

ElderHolmes, daughter of the late broadcaster Sir Paul Holmes, was a witness during the trial but was not present for the verdict yesterday. She shared her reaction on Twitter and Instagram.

On Twitter she wrote: ‘‘Hell F. . . yes thank you NZ justice system . . . GUILTY AF’’

Then on Instagram, she said of the guilty verdict: ‘‘We all knew it, glad that the justice system came through for you baby @cnnrmrris cant believe I’m happy about something so sad, doesn’t bring you back or change our reality now, doesn’t change how much we all miss you or how much we all wish we could turn back time . . . but you got justice and for everyone who knew you it means a little bit of closure’’

She then posted a quote from American novelist Stephen Chbosky: ‘‘So, this is my life. And I am both happy and sad and I’m still trying to figure out how that could be.’’

In the courtroom one of the supporters grouped around Morris’s mother and father thanked the judge and court for what they had done for the Morris family but warned ‘‘Murray, your day’s coming.’’
