TO THE POINT

-

I lost my sense of smell nearly four months ago. My GP referred me to the ear, nose, throat (ENT) clinic to be seen by a specialist. I got one of those letters ‘‘referring’’ me back to my GP. I then saw an article Ear surgery for zoo chimp (November 20). I find it ironic that a chimpanzee can get to see an ear, nose and throat specialist before a human can. JENNY HAMMOND, Ngaio Teaching a single religion is dangerous. It is religious teaching that has created Isis. Respect for other people is based on reason, not dogma. I’d like to see New Zealand schools teach about all religions to help kids understand the good in religion and recognise the evil of fanaticism. It is a secular society and secular education that rejects Isis and allows Christians and others to follow their beliefs. CLAIRE GRAEME, Seatoun At the same time as a report is released called Preparing New Zealand for rising seas, caused by global warming, the Wellington City Council is dismantling the overhead wires for our eco-friendly trolley buses. Really? JOHN WOOLF, Aro Valley On the issue of cats destroying our wildlife, is it possible to enforce cats to have bells on their collar or some other warning device? Maybe a solar-powered noise emitter at a frequency that birds and wildlife can hear, but not cats, rats, mice and humans? CAROLE NAYLOR, Papakowhai It‘s disappointing that some people have been brainwashed by Gareth Morgan’s negativity on cats and want a curfew on them. This would allow stoats, rats, weasels and mice to run amok. But apparently, when you have as much money as Morgan you can do just that. If I had any birds nesting near my panoramic view of native bush I would be more worried about a scrub fire, rather than stray cats killing any native birds. ROGER WRIGHT,Hastings
