TO THE POINT

-

We’ve known for for some time about people living in garages; now they are also in cars and under bridges. Housing is a basic human need. I am not surprised more people no longer vote when they are ignored. Where are our politicians with vision? Where are the ones with political will to actually make changes? Where’s the compassion? Why do we have leaders who just tinker with problems?

Winter is coming. This will be very hard on the growing number of homeless people and it doesn’t seem as if a solution to this problem has been found yet. I would like to suggest that councils open up suburban community centres overnight to the homeless as a temporary measure. This is done in times of disasters and I would suggest that we have a disaster on our hands at present.

While travel agents and airlines could be forgiven for making reassuring noises about Kiwi travel after the EgyptAir disaster, the facts paint a different picture. Given terrorism is at an all-time high, any flight anywhere is potentially at risk. Kiwis need to recognise the possibility of untoward events when deciding to travel and choose carrier and destination accordingly.
