No Direction Home 8.35pm, Tuesday, Prime

Martin Scorsese directs this two-part 2005 chronicle of Bob Dylan’s strange evolution between 1961 and 1966 from folk singer to protest singer to ‘‘voice of a generation’’ to rock star. ‘‘Creates a portrait that is deep, sympathetic, perceptive and yet finally leaves Dylan shrouded in mystery, which is where he properly lives,’’ wrote Chicago Sun-Times‘ Roger Ebert.

Golden Eye 7.30pm, Thursday, Three

Pierce Brosnan’s first outing in the tux. Kiwi director Martin Campbell’s 1995 movie is a fine example of the franchise, with Brosnan bringing back the charm, Judi Dench the gravitas and Famke Janssen the beauty after the series had foundered.

Operation Avalanche 8.30pm, Friday, Rialto

Capricorn One for the found footage generation, Matt Johnson’s 2016 thriller works best in its more ironic and comedic moments. Our duo’s attempts to make their fake moon-landing movie evoke memories of the Coen brothers at their finest (apparently the real Johnson got Nasa’s permission to shoot on location because he said he was making a ‘‘student documentary’’), while the decision to have them track down Kubrick on the set of 2001 for his assistance is inspired.

The Rocket 8.35, Saturday, Maori TV

Kind of a cross between Beasts of the Southern Wild,The

Gods Must Be Crazy and The Cup, Australian writer-director Kim Morduant’s engaging 2013 tale (written with the help of New Zealand’s own Miro Bilbrough) mixes mordant humour with knockabout comedy to sometimes jarring effect.

Furious 7 8.30pm, Sunday, Three

Exotic locations, from Abu Dhabi to Azerbaijan, provide the backdrop for copious amounts of carnage and vehicular warfare in this 2015 sequel. But while the visuals place an emphasis on chassis – both feminine and automotive – the story focus is far more on family, brotherhood, gun battles and fist fights. And with the likes of Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, Djimon Hounsou, Thai marital artist Tony Jaa and MMA exponent Ronda Rousey added to the already impressive cast, Furious 7 is an Expendables movie with a sheen and plot Sylvester Stallone can only dream of.

Trainspotting 8.30pm, Sunday, Rialto

Danny Boyle’s 1996 Edinburgh-set drama not only helped launch the careers of the likes of Jonny Lee-Miller and Ewan McGregor, it also captured the era of Cool Brittania perfectly. It’s about one man’s attempts to clean up and get out, despite the allure of drugs and influence of friends.

‘‘Trainspotting is supercharged with sulphurous humour and brutal recklessness,’’ wrote The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw.
