Big night for stars of enterprise

- CHLOE WINTER

An event to celebrate the achievements of leading Wellington businesses is expected to attract more than 1000 guests.

Companies contributing to the city’s economy will be acknowledged at the Wellington Gold Awards on Thursday night.

Established in 1999, the annual awards show celebrates the excellence and enterprise of business in the region.

Wellington Gold Awards director John Dow said the finalists represented an ‘‘excellent blend’’ of creative, resilient, and technology savvy organisations.

‘‘A key feature of the 2017 finalists concerns and aspirations relate to the rapidly evolving nature of work and how businesses can stimulate or share ideas to enhance productivity and navigate change in a very competitive environment.

‘‘These leading Wellington businesses are always looking for ways to challenge workplace thinking and finding ways to reinvigorate their organisations,’’ Dow said.

‘‘All [the] finalists reflect a strong willingness to contribute to a vibrant, aware and inclusive Wellington regional economy and community with most also very actively involved in a range of initiatives that added to the quality of life in the region on top of running demanding businesses.

‘‘This spirit and attitude will be very prevalent at the awards night on Thursday.’’

About 1000 people are expected to attend the event to celebrate and acknowledge the 60 finalists, recognised in 11 categories.

As well as the supreme award, there would also be an announcement of two prestigious tributes to outstanding individuals who have contributed to Wellington over an extended period of time.

And a New Thinking Award will be presented to a person at the leading edge of modern human and organisational resilience and training.

This year’s theme is ‘New Revolutionaries – Disruptive Influencers’.

There would be interesting stories and perspectives highlighting some of the extraordinary changes occurring in global and local business, Dow said.

The 2017 Wellington Gold Awards show, held in association with The Dominion Post, is at TSB Bank Arena on July 6.
