HOW THE ALL BLACKS RATED

- AARON GOILE

Israel Dagg 6: Mixed night under high ball in tricky conditions, some decent touches on attack, moved to right wing when Naholo exited and was immediately outdone one-on-one for Taulupe Faletau try. Waisake Naholo 5: Early crosskick went his way which he cleaned up nicely. Spilled a high ball, had a good charge up the middle, but not many chances on a wet night; then failed concussion test in 59th minute. Anton Lienert-Brown 6: Tried hard all night. Defended stoutly and ran strong, but nothing opened up for him. Went to fill in at openside flanker for scrums. Sonny Bill Williams

2: Couple of messy plays, then that monumental moment – the 25th-minute red card for his shoulder charge into Anthony Watson’s face. Under the new laws, referee Jerome Garces was left with no choice.

Rieko Ioane 5: Nothing went his direction first half. Started second stanza with with good touches, then stinging knock-on late when try desperately needed.

Beauden Barrett 7: Nice varied kicking game in rough conditions, moved to fullback for final quarter and was always offering a lovely pickup or glide run but couldn’t quite spark something big. Took a couple of cheap shots from Mako Vunipola. Kicked 7/10 off the tee, and may rue one or two of the misses.

Aaron Smith 6: Good clearance work on a slippery night, and some decent kicking. Off with about quarter of an hour left.

Kieran Read 7: Fine knock from the captain, trying as well as he could to inspire from the front, with some big charges.

Sam Cane 7: Right in the thick of it again. Won early penalty over ball, couple of exceptional tackles late in first half, some decent charges. Jerome Kaino 4: One good charge and conceded maul turnover, but that was really his lot as was surprisingly sacrificial sub in 26th minute for SBW, with All Blacks wanting to retain seven backs.

Sam Whitelock 6: Workmanlike in the second row without too much involvement on attack. Solid defensively, leading the count with seven.

Brodie Retallick 7: Warned by ref early for physical exchanges with Wyn Jones so was his usual self in the midst of it all. Physically imposing carries and clean lineout ball.

Owen Franks 6: Won a scrum penalty against feed then toiled away in a sometimes seven-man scrum.

Codie Taylor 7: Lineout took needed step up from test one, apart from early not straight for down Lions side threw the rest on target. Solid scrums and some great work with ball in hand.

Joe Moody 6: Solid scrummaging and a few handles in possession. Off in 53rd minute with Franks. Reserves: Wyatt Crockett 6: (53rd) Held things up ok on his introduction. Charlie Faumuina 4: (53rd) Conceded the game-winning penalty when tackling Kyle Sinckler in the air. Scott Barrett 6: (73rd) Decent x-factor in his little cameo.

Ardie Savea 6: (64th) Some of those strong leg drives, but opened up on Conor Murray try.

TJ Perenara 4: (66th) Good tackle on Jamie George burst, but then got done all ends up by Conor Murray try from the next phase.

Aaron Cruden 5: (59th) Some good jinks but too many Weet-Bix on grubber for corner and cross-kick, and dumb penalty for late charge. Ngani Laumape 7: (26th) Showed several of those powerful charges he’s becoming known for. Not rated: Nathan Harris.
