Post-quake wilderness years over for BDO

-

The Christchurch CBD is receiving a further boost with 110 staff at accountancy and business advisory firm BDO shifting back to the new Awly building.

The building is on the corner of Durham and Armagh streets.

BDO was based in Victoria St before the 2010-11 Canterbury earthquakes, and relocated to Sir William Pickering Drive in the suburb of Burnside.

The company has now signed a long-term lease for 1600 square metres of space, which includes a balcony on the fourth level.

BDO joins the 380 Meridian staff who moved into the building last year.

Office leasing broker Helen Weideman of Colliers International said another tenant was expected to be confirmed shortly.

This will leave only two office spaces – 750sqm on level one and 780sqm plus balcony on level four.

‘‘We’re delighted with the emerging tenant mix of highprofile companies that are now in Awly,’’ Weideman said.

‘‘It’s a beautiful complex with meticulous attention to detail. Naturally, companies looking for office space to lease want somewhere with a high degree of safety.

‘‘Other priorities include good technical infrastructure, good lighting, open-plan space, and the surrounding amenities are important for staff.’’

Warren Johnstone, managing partner at BDO in Christchurch, said the much-awaited move was exciting and the business was particularly pleased to be able to locate its staff across one floor rather than different levels.

‘‘We’re excited about being part of the buzz that is now the thriving Christchurch CBD.’’ –Fairfax NZ
