Five ways to accentuate your eyes
Create the illusion of wider, brighter eyes
MASCARA
No matter what length your lashes are, popping on some mascara and paying particular attention to the outer lashes is going to lift your lashes and create the illusion of wider, more open eyes. One or two coats is all you need. Avoid using mascara on the bottom lashes as this can cast a shadow and will counteract what you are trying to achieve. theBalm Cosmetics Mad Lash Mascara, $40
STRATEGICALLY PLACED HIGHLIGHTER
A small amount of highlighter placed in just the right place is great for opening up your eye area. Using the lightest shade, draw on a line just under your outer brow area and then buff in. This makes that area pop, drawing the eye to the area and making it seem larger. Jane Iredale Eye Highlighter Pencil, $39.50
COMPLEMENTARY SHADOW COLOURS
Finding palettes which complement your eye colour is one of the best ways to accentuate your eyes. Find an image of a colour wheel and choose shades completely opposite to your eye colour on the wheel. For example, blue eyes look great with brow shadows, green eyes suit aubergine shades, and brown eyes suit a blue or teal shadow. Revlon Colorstay Not Just Nudes Palette in Romantic Nudes, $40
FALSE LASHES
If mascara just isn’t cutting it, get a hold of some false lashes. Falsies will help elongate the eyes and draw attention to them. Whether you opt for a full set or simply want to add a few individual lashes to the outside upper lash line, these are a great option for getting a more doe-eyed look. EYELINER
Adding a liner to your makeup regime is one of the best ways to draw attention to your eyes - whether it’s a thinner line across the top of the eyelid or a thicker more dramatic look. Osmosis Liquid Liner, $53
