The candidates

-

Paul Eagle, Labour Party: Wellington's deputy mayor

I have represented south Wellington on Wellington City Council for the past seven years. Housing is the biggest challenge for Wellingtonians. Accommodation in this part of the city is hopelessly unaffordable and there is an acute shortage of social housing. Labour will immediately start building more affordable homes in Rongotai.

Teall Crossen, Green Party: Lawyer

I love the diversity of the Rongotai community. A lawyer by trade, I have dedicated my professional life to advocating for people and the environment. I have worked for Chapman Tripp, Forest & Bird and at the United Nations. I’m standing for the Green Party because it’s led on tackling climate change, and advocates for all New Zealanders. I will work hard for a New Zealand that is a fairer place for everyone.

Geoff Mills, NZ First: Consultancy company owner

NZ First most closely represents the kinder, fairer, more egalitarian world I grew up in. The failed neoliberal experiment introduced by Labour in 1984 and continued by National has created a harsher, heavily indebted society where life for many is a struggle. Our levels of homelessness, mental illness and suicide are a disgrace.

Christopher Finlayson, National Party: Attorney-General and list MP

As the National candidate for Rongotai, I am focused on two key issues – resilience and transport. It is vital for the future of Rongotai that these matters are properly addressed. As a minister, I have been responsible for the Arras Tunnel and worked to secure millions to fund critical infrastructure for the Chatham Islands (part of Rongotai).

Chris Sole, ACT Party: Student

A party vote for ACT is for consistent and principled candidates who support increasing the individual liberties of every New Zealander. ACT will reduce wasteful government spending, protect property rights, and advance economic freedom, selfownership, and a free society. ACT wants to fix the housing crisis by freeing up land, allowing for the development of more homes.
