Solutions needed

-

Growing cities face three choices: stop growing, knock down buildings to make more room for cars, or find a better way to move people around.

Transmission Gully is predicted to funnel 12,000 new cars into the city every day. Is that really what we want? With another 50-80,000 people arriving in the CBD over the next 20 years, we urgently need to figure out how to make the best use of road space.

Experts agree that means prioritising people on foot, on bikes, and on public transport. That still leaves room for freight and those who need to travel by car. It’s a win-win.

It’s also what our new Government campaigned for. Let’s take the time needed to have a proper conversation on the Let’s Get Wellington Moving process.

If anyone wants to object, I respect that. But if you want to object, you must give us a viable alternative. PATRICK MORGAN Newtown
