I am pretty sure that the petrol and diesel being sold at the pump at present was not bought at the current NZD/USD level. So why the price increase? Because they can!

Wadestown Bryan Fisk (Letters, Nov 1) disputes a previous letter on cycling stats and points out how low the cycling death risk is in New Zealand. This is good news; in showing how low the risk really is, it negates the need for councils to spend thousands of dollars on cycle lanes. We all know many things that are far more worthy of having that money spent on them. Well done Bryan, keep up the good work.

Titahi Bay In threatening to axe the three strikes legislation, Justice Minister Andrew Little has applied logic which is just as fatuous as statements made about Y2K being just a hoax. The lack of instances where the ‘‘third strike’’ provisions have been invoked provide reason to believe that the law is working. The fact that systems did not collapse and that aeroplanes did not fall from the sky likewise provide evidence that the widespread and thorough Y2K program fixes were a job well done.
