Muso suffers health scares
Kiwi musician Stan Walker has had a ‘‘number of health scares’’, according to his manager.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern had alluded to him being in poor health at an event both attended.
Walker’s manager told NewsHub yesterday he ‘‘had some challenges healthwise but he will be back and working towards a new single release in March’’.
She did not specify health issues were.
The manager said Walker was feeling well enough to perform at the One Love festival, which is due to be held this weekend in Tauranga.
Walker was a guest speaker at an event hosted by Ardern for about 100 young leaders on Thursday.
Walker later described the event as a ‘‘special night, celebrating and honouring the next generation‘‘.
Ardern posted to social media, saying: ‘‘Thanks Stan Walker for what the joining us despite being unwell’’.
In November, Walker cancelled his November tour of New Zealand to be with his mother, April Walker, who works as his promoter, after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2016. Walker and his mother both have a rare cancer-causing gene mutation.
The CDH1 hereditary mutation Walker and his mother have is found in more than 400 known families worldwide, and an estimated 25 families in New Zealand have it.
It is responsible for the death of at least 25 of Walker’s family members.
