Re the rental squeeze, will the Government fulfil its promise to reduce the immigration target to something more sustainable? The housing and rental crisis doesn’t just sit with the MInister of housing. That is the supply side. The Government need to address demand too, as promised.

All the hype about the PM having a baby and continuing to work is not her fault. But she should have said, I’m one of the lucky ones and acknowledged many women and single dads have been doing this for years on the minimum wage with little or no spousal support. Contrast this with her high salary, supporting workplace and partner. How about some kudos from her for those who’ve been doing this for years. Bernard Jennings, Island Bay Thanks to David Linklater for one of the most pertinent leading articles for some time (Who is buying all these pickup trucks?, Jan 27). Tactically, they are great stand-over vehicles, and our roads are one of the finest places to assert yourself if you are that way inclined. Many of us seem to be so, and this produces another layer to the multi-faceted consideration of our road fatality statistics. Martin Bond, Brooklyn

I have sympathy with a predatorfree NZ but what on earth would we do with all those politicians? Eric Constantine, Palmerston North

We all know having a first baby is a huge, often overwhelming experience, with which many women struggle. We also know that being prime minister of NZ is a position few of us have the energy, knowledge or leadership experience to perform. Ardern is regarded by the zealots of the Left as a superwoman who will perform both jobs effortlessly, and they shout down anyone who fails to conform to their rosy vision. Whatever happened to free speech when fair and reasonable comment is shut down? Neil Harrap, Wellington

The prime minister quite rightly wishes to help the poor and their children, the deputy prime Minister promises to build more horse racing tracks, did I hear the word stupid? James Hibbs, Upper Hutt

Tom Scott doesn’t always get it right but the ‘‘Sovereign’’ cartoon (Jan 26) concept was brilliant, the content bang on. Well done, Mr Scott, and best wishes to Jacinda.

Janet Macdonald, O¯ taki The latest scare about using a fitness app for Fitbit, jawbone etc., won’t specifically worry the US Secret Service because Donald Trump probably doesn’t even know what a Fitbit is. But it must give the CIA. and NSA. cause to think on tracking Vladimir Putin whilst doing his bench presses, weights and chasing his Opposition around Red Square. Steve Anderton, Paraparaumu

With all the talk about cannabis as pain relief, a biography on Paul McCartney reveals he and first wife Linda were well known as cannabis users (think of his arrest in Japan) but when she was dying of breast cancer, she stopped smoking marijuana as it was not helping with the pain. Annette Parry, Waikanae

Speaker of the House Trevor Mallard was asked why he had dropped naming Jesus in the Parliamentary Prayer. His response was ‘‘most New Zealanders are not Christians’’. Most New Zealanders don’t speak Ma¯ori, yet the prayer is given in Ma¯ori. Fiona Russell, Linden

The inclusion of reference to Jesus Christ continues the historical connection we have with this notable person who has influenced our whole democracy. The Christian influence has affected our schooling, healthcare, social services and law down through history. Why should we not acknowledge this?

Melda F Townsley, Wadestown

Why do we insist on calling it Wellington Town Hall when Wellington has been a city for over 150 years. City Hall sounds better anyway.
