It’s a dog’s life in the brewery

-

Black Dog Brewery has relocated to Wellington’s Cuba St, and is due to throw open the doors to the bar on Friday. The new brew house comes hot on the heels of other breweries setting up in the area, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Husk and Heyday.

Housed in the former Flowers Manuela site, the double-storey venue has 16 taps in total and will be offering a small selection of inhouse snacks of pizza and platters. Additional meal options from surrounding restaurants will be available, including Grill Meats Beer across the road.

‘‘It’s always good to have food where there’s booze available,’’ explains manager Adrian Klemp.‘‘

Klemp shut up the former site at the end of last year, when the lease came up. ‘‘Cuba St is more our demographic, there’s a lot more happening during the day. Blair St is more of a nightclub precinct.

‘‘The decor is completely different, it’s more fitting with the building.

The new brewery features a large mural on the upstairs wall, created by local artists Kelly Spencer, Mica Still and Sean Duffell. For Klemp, it alludes to Black Dog’s collaborative style: ‘‘We have a whole load of different brewers working together.’’

Still explains that each artist brought their own unique style to the project.

‘‘The different brews are based on different dogs, so I went with that.

‘‘I also wanted the dogs to be interacting with each other, and running through the space.’’ Black Dog Brewery, 126 Cuba St. blackdogbrewery.co.nz
