Husband and wife quit foodie executive roles

- JULIE ILES

My Food Bag’s co-chief executives, husband and wife duo James and Cecilia Robinson, have announced they are leaving their positions to take on governance roles at the company.

The food home-delivery company said an announcement regarding its new chief executive ‘‘will follow shortly’’.

The Robinsons founded the company with MasterChef New Zealand winner Nadia Lim, her husband Carlos Bagrie and former Telecom chief executive Theresa Gattung in 2012. It delivered its first meal in 2013.

My Food Bag was the ‘‘brainchild’’ of Cecilia Robinson. The business plan was completed only hours before she went into labour and gave birth to the couple’s son.

Cecilia Robinson said both she and James were ‘‘incredibly proud of the business we have built’’.

She said it was ‘‘too soon to comment on the replacement at this time’’.

Since its founding, the company has grown to become the third largest food retailer in New Zealand, and has delivered 40 million meals.

It now has more than 50,000 customers, 120 employees and projected revenues of more than $135 million a year.

Robinson said they were excited to continue help grow the business as directors on the board and founder shareholders.

The succession plan has been in place since last year. ‘‘We’ve had absolute focus on our people and preparing the team for the next phase of growth,’’ Cecilia Robinson said.

The company’s group finance manager, Hannah Howard, won the Emerging Financial Manager of the Year award at the annual CFO awards last month.

Last week My Food Bag was awarded the ‘‘Best of the Best Supreme Auckland Business Award 2017’’ at the Westpac Auckland Business awards.

My Food Bag chairman Kevin Roberts said the Robinsons had had a ‘‘tremendous impact’’ in changing the way New Zealanders ate.

Roberts called the company ‘‘one of the most successful companies founded in New Zealand over the last 20 years’’. about
