Warner nothing to Crowe about

-

I read with great interest Joe Bennett’s opinion on the David Warner/ball tampering incident in South Africa recently (Warner’s crimes against game’s humanity, April 4).

I accolade completely what he says, and believe that we have no place for sportsmen such as Warner in the wonderful game of cricket, or for that matter in any sport.

I find it hard to comprehend why the ICC did not ban him for life, never to be seen or heard again in anything related to cricket.

There are plenty of aspiring young men who would give their right arm to represent their country with honour and dignity, showing fine sportmanship.

I had met the late Martin Crowe, whom had a wonderful cricket and sports brain and always displayed fine sportsmanship and respect to all involved in cricket, and I am reminded of his comments on David Warner in an article he wrote for The Guardian on January 15, 2015, due to an incident Warner encountered with Rohit Sharma in a test with India at the MCG, with some of the text as follows: ‘‘Warner can play, but he is the most juvenile cricketer I have seen on a cricket field. I don’t care how good he is: if he continues to show all those watching that he doesn’t care, he must be removed, either by Cricket Australia or definitely by the world governing body.

The more he gets away with it, the more others will follow his pitiful actions. Already we see one or two of his team-mates enjoying being close to his hideous energy’’. GRAEME POCKNALL Plimmerton
