Promising turnover for rotisserie chicken business

-

AMOBILE chicken rotisserie business with appetising prospects is for sale in Wellington.

La Rotisserie was set up to offer Wellingtonians fast food with French flair.

‘‘The idea was to provide the same kind of mobile rotisserie experience that’s popular all over Europe,’’ Neil Forde, of Crown Commercial, says.

‘‘It’s been very successful and is only for sale because the vendors are returning to France for family reasons.’’

The business operates two trucks and the fleet easily could be expanded to fuel sales, Forde says.

‘‘There are many growth options for this easy-to-run business, which we believe to be the only one of its kind in the capital.’’

Two trucks have been fitted out to support the operation: a 2007 Isuzu and a Toyota Hiace.

‘‘The Isuzu truck does most of the regular week-in, week-out business,’’ Forde says.

‘‘It’s fully equipped with a kitchen and gas bottles.

‘‘The Toyota Hiace also has a full rotisserie but usually the food is prepared off-site.

‘‘This van does special events, such as the Martinborough Fair and Sunday markets.

‘‘Sales would usually exceed $1000 a day at markets, weekend fairs and special events.’’

Forde says the both trucks have on-board generators in case some sites don’t have power.

The business operates Wednesday to Sunday but could be a daily service.

‘‘The vendors have proven the viability of the concept and the turnover that can be expected in each location subject to appropriate weather.

‘‘There is next-to-no food wastage because the chicken that doesn’t sell is turned into rolls for the next day.

‘‘Rental costs are minimal and mainly around ‘special event’ locations.’’

He says one person could run the business as it is but there’s scope to expand the menu and offer drinks as well.

‘‘The inherent simplicity of the operation makes it a business that could be scaled up.

‘‘There is no shortage of locations and running more vehicles would increase turnover.

‘‘Obviously, you would need to factor in staff costs but the design and template are in place to grow this business.’’

La Rotisserie has an asking price of $180,000 (plus gst, if any, and chattels).
