Why Netflix’s Dogs is must-watch TV

- Emily Writes

While watching Dogs on Netflix at the beginning of the week I was overcome with emotion. How did Netflix know that I needed to see drone footage of 800 dogs running along hills in Costa Rica? The dogs bounded along, barking happily, and for one brief moment everything was right in the world.

Dogs is the best TV show/ documentary series there ever has been and ever will be.

The premise is that dogs are great and people are usually their best selves when they are around dogs.

This is the hardest list I’ve ever made in my life because every episode made me cry so much I became dehydrated. The episodes are hopeful and full of heart. So here’s a rundown of the episodes that will make you glad dogs exist. find out what happened I might lose my mind.

What can I do? Locally, you could volunteer with Red Cross to support Syrian refugees, or you can donate to and follow Animals Syria on Facebook.

Rating: You will climb into bed with your kids and cry some more.

I loved this episode so much. It focuses on a young girl with epilepsy and the dog she is matched with that can detect seizures. If you’ve ever had a sick child, you will relate to Corine’s mum. The way she sleeps by her child’s bed, her patience, her love – it’s motherhood in action. Meghan has a condition that means parts of spine are missing – her dog Strax helps her to walk. If that’s not the most pure thing you’ve ever seen I don’t know what is.

What can I do? Locally, you can donate to the NZ Epilepsy Assist Dog Trust. Or you can donate to the charity featured in Dogs:

4Paws4Ability. Rating: Will make you cry while checking your tenancy agreement to see if you can get more dogs.

This episode in New York City is based on animal adoption. We learn about Mickey who was a Very Good Dog. When Micky died after a happy life, I cried for some time. And then I finally stopped and Micky’s owner smiled at a dog and said, ‘‘I think we’re ready to love another dog again’’ and I started crying all over again.

What can I do? You can adopt. The best breed is the breed in need. You can donate to Hearts and Bones or a local charity like Huha or SPCA.

Rating: Will make you cry while you say to yourself, ‘‘I should really make some pasta’’.

When I thought Ice was dead I had a nervous breakdown. Ice is such a good dog it’s physically painful to look at his face.

Rating: Will make you cry laughing while screeching ‘‘Chonky ma!’’

Scissors Down features groomers from Japan coming to a crazy American grooming show – and shines a light on cute dog culture in Japan.

The woman who says: ‘‘If there were a fire in my house, I’d save Kotaro before my husband. Kotaro comes first’’ is a queen.

The women who wear matching clothes to their dogs were inspiring, though my greyhound was not impressed when I tried to put clothes on her. I am now obsessed with dog grooming videos on Youtube.

What can I do? You can make your dog floofier.
