Lakefront in Peka Peka

-

ASUPREMELY sunny, stylish and private Peka Peka home with its own lakefront is for sale for the first time since it was built four years ago.

The three-bedroom house, at 34 Pairuku Lane, has a deadline sale date of February 21 (if not sold prior). Eddie Winkel, a director of DoubleWinkel Real Estate, and his wife, Nila, bought the 4100-square metre section in the Tasman Lakes subdivision in 2013.

They liked its position at the end of Pairuku Lane, where it includes a one-third share of an adjoining lake, is next to council reserve and has only one immediate neighbour.

They commissioned Peter Davis, of AD Architecture, to design their single-level 262sqm dwelling, with it natural macrocarpa exterior, Colorsteel roof, ‘floating’ wraparound deck, sheltered patio and east-west aspect.

“We wanted open-plan living and hardly any hallways,” Eddie says. “So it’s a very easy home to live in and is very warm and friendly, whether you have four people here or 20.”

“We also love the peacefulness and the birdlife,” Nila says, “and being just a few minutes’ walk from the beach.”

A hedge of ngaios and flaxes affords shelter along the northwest perimeter while the eastern side is lakeshore.

“We wanted people to see this view as soon as they open the front door,” Eddie says.

Another feature is the waxed concrete floors, which provide passive solar heating to supplement the eco-friendly Pyroclassic woodburner and electric panel heating.

The house also has been designed to “go off the grid”. It can plug into a generator and has two 25,000-litre water tanks, a filtration system for drinking water, and a bore and pop-up irrigation system for the garden.

The open-plan kitchen and living/dining space have three sets of bifolding doors and four sets of stacking doors that open up the interior to the wraparound deck, which includes a large, covered al fresco area.

“We always wanted to have somewhere sheltered to sit regardless of which way the wind was blowing,” Eddie says of the extensive indoor-outdoor living. The entertainers’ kitchen includes a scullery, a breakfast bar island, a 900 millimetre-wide Smeg range with a six-burner hob, integrated rangehood, and Smeg dishwasher and deluxe refrigeratorfreezer.

A separate media room and the main bedroom face the lake and open to decking.

The latter has a professionally custom-built walk-in wardrobe and an ensuite with black marble floor tiles, a shower cabinet, dual-basin vanity, toilet and underfloor heating.

The bathroom is similarly specified, the second double bedroom has a double-wardrobe and the third has two opening skylights and French doors to the organic garden.

“This home offers an amazing lifestyle just nine minute from Waikanae,” Philip Whearty, of DoubleWinkel Real Estate, says.

“Whether you love fishing, horse riding, four-wheel driving or just walking along the beach, it’s in a sought-after location that will become even more popular with the completion of Transmission Gully.”
