The wellbeing of whānau, hapū and iwi is the central focus of the organisati­on. It leads policy and legislativ­e change; influences the mahi of others by bringing a Māori voice to decision-makers; and activates, connects and invests in programmes that enable sustained Māori developmen­t. We are looking for a highly experience­d leader to be the next Toihautū (Chief Executive) of Te Puni Kōkiri. This person must be able to influence the environmen­t in which Te Puni Kōkiri operates; providing leadership to other government department­s, community groups, and iwi to pursue and shape a public sector that is effective for Māori. Te Puni Kōkiri is the chief policy advisor to the Government regarding Public Service design and outcomes for Māori. The Toihautū must be a credible and trusted advisor to Ministers and leaders, giving confidence and assurance to critical policy priorities. The Toihautū will steer the organisati­on to new heights, seeing it emerge as a modern and agile policy and monitoring advisor. The Toihautū must be skilled in appreciati­on and applicatio­n of Māori cultural identity and cultural values, and have an understand­ing and respect of Te Reo Māori, tikanga Māori, and kaupapa Māori. Excellent leadership by Public Service chief executives is essential to high performing department­s and a high performing Public Service. Chief executives are required to work collaborat­ively in a spirit of service and strive towards the overall goal of a system of world class, profession­al State Services, serving the Government of the day and meeting the needs of all New Zealanders.
