TO THE POINT
Heaven forbid that we rename the Westpac Stadium as Waterloo (Letters, July 30). How about Te Whare Kaha – the strong house/ house of strength? Although more likely another sponsor will pick it up, and we’ll have to live with Specsavers Stadium, KFC Stadium or whatever.

It is a pity that they do not have ship cruises where people could go on an ‘‘island cruise’’ to places like Henderson Island (‘Stolen from
Talley’s’, July 29) and clean up, having an island cruise while making a difference – wow.

Our mayor says, in your newspaper, that he wants the library back as much as anyone (August 1). But his opinion piece is mostly about the building. What about the books? I agree the building is worth saving, but need we wait to have all those books available again? Why are they not already available by an alternative system? It’s more than four months since the building closed and that seems long enough. David Wright, Hataitai
We are advised not to judge all Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but this Government encourages us to judge all gun owners by the actions of one visiting Australian lunatic. Funny how that works!

If, as our Greens dream, electric cars proliferate, hydro-power sources may prove insufficient, particularly in our drier months and given too our increasingly capricious rainfall. Yet we stubbornly remain one of the few developed countries with no nuclear power capability. Assuming we don’t want to burn more oil, coal or natural gas, it’s surely timely to rethink the reliable, safe, efficient and clean nuclear option, assuming of course that any such power plant is located near the main users – Auckland.

I wonder how far a petrol or diesel car has to travel (at average speed, etc) before it generates the same amount of CO2 generated in building the car in the first place?

How appropriate for The
Dominion Post on the front page (Aug 1) to cap an appeal by a major fuel company effectively to support the use of their fuel by Prince Harry’s suggestion that families should have no more than two children to save the planet.
