- A fusion of flavours A fried chicken celebration Beervana

Few food combinations are as divisive as pineapple on pizza, but a popular new takeaway joint is proving pizza mashups don’t always have to be controversial.

Currizza, as the name suggests, blends the flavours of India and Italy to bring curry on pizza to Wellingtonians.

‘‘We serve curry on pizza crusts with a generous amount of mozzarella,’’ says Currizza’s Harsh Patel.

‘‘All of our pizzas are must-tries, as they all taste different. But our most popular dishes so far are the Tandoori Chicken, the Kiwi’s Favourite [nonvegetarian], the Paneer on Fire, and Bollywood Bomb [vegetarian].’’

Other eyebrow-raisers on Currizza’s menu include Popeye Lover, Fiery Vindaloo, and Nut Delight, featuring toppings such as spinach and vindaloo paste.

Patel says the goal is to expand across the country and introduce more people to Currizza.

‘‘Our vision is to establish our brand as a quality pizza supplier with an Indian twist. We want to see Currizza New Zealand-wide, covering the Wellington region first.

‘‘We are hoping to spread our wings next year.’’

Wellington On a Plate is well and truly under way, and fried chicken lovers will be licking their lips in anticipation of an event next week.

The team at Mr Go’s ‘‘is putting on World Bowl Fried Chicken next Thursday and Friday (August 15 and 16), inviting people on a fried chicken-themed, around-theworld trip, from the comfort of the new Ruyi Room.

Make sure you get there early to grab a seat to indulge in all the Japanese, Nashville, Buffalo, Korean, Singaporean, Thai, and Southern Fried chicken you can handle.

‘‘I’ve had an idea mulling for a while, really from David Chang’s Ugly Delicious Netflix series.

‘‘In the last episode, he looks at dumplings versus stuffed pasta, where very similar foods can be so, so different, born from different cultures and histories,’’ says Mr Go’s owner Dean White.

‘‘I landed on fried chicken as it’s obviously the food du jour.

‘‘Guests know what to expect and we could bring it in at an accessible price point, which was always the intention.’’

On offer over the two nights are burgers, wings, and sides, as well as a range of cocktails and beers.

‘‘It’s fast, fun and well-priced, with a succinct menu,’’ White says.

‘‘No tickets, come-as-you-are, and guests can really see how one food item can be done in many different ways.’’
