Choosing the right art for a space

-

Anew artwork is a great way to add colour and style to your surrounds, although it can be tough to tell if a piece that impresses in the gallery will look just as good at its new location. Questions of decor, layout and lighting abound.

To help, Bryce Gallery offers on-site consultations at a client’s home or workplace.

Bryce Gallery owner and artist Min Kim previously ran an interior design business in Seoul, South Korea, before relocating to New Zealand 20 years ago.

An artist from a young age,

she had a natural talent for applying principles of balance and form to the wider environment of offices, hotels and private residences.

Nowadays when not painting or arranging a new exhibition for Bryce Gallery, Min specialises in helping people use art to put the finishing touches on interiors.

A well-positioned painting or sculpture can go a long way to creating the type of space you have always wanted, she says.

‘‘If you can take all the colours, shapes and sizes in your home and tie them together with an artwork, you can bring a home to life. It gives me a lot of joy to do the final touches in these important spaces and help people enjoy the best of their home or office.’’

While Min is happy to make house calls, often the best place to start is Bryce Gallery itself.

The gallery on Riccarton Rd occupies a former showhome and as such has a design and fixtures not unlike many newer properties in Canterbury. Warm and light-filled, it’s a great spot to get a feel for art in an everyday environment.

Works are regularly rotated, including paintings in all styles, sculptures, glasswork and ceramics. Commissions are also available and vouchers can be bought as gifts.

To make the final decision a little easier, customers can make layby and ‘‘on appro’’ purchases, wherein a piece is taken home for viewing before a commitment is made. All artworks from Bryce Gallery come with an Art Certificate to record the provenance and details of the piece for future generations.

‘‘We look forward to talking with you in the gallery and helping you make those important finishing touches,’’ Min says.

Bryce Gallery is open every day on the corner of Riccarton Rd and Paeroa St, Riccarton. Call them on 03 348 0064 or visit brycegallery.co.nz.
