Boyd to stay in Europe
Chris
Former Super Rugby champion coach
is planning to stay coaching in Europe before an eventual return home to New Zealand. Boyd, who guided the Hurricanes to the 2016 Super Rugby title, joined the Northampton Saints as director of rugby in 2018. In a wide-ranging interview with The Rugby Paper, Boyd talked about how world rugby must find a way to bring Pacific Islands teams into domestic competitions, and he also touched on his own immediate future. The 61-year-old’s Northampton contract ends in 2021, and he said he has not immediate intentions to return to New Zealand rugby. ‘‘The only thing that will lure my wife and I away from Northampton is the desire to eventually go back home to New Zealand and spend more time with our family and friends there, but there’s still quite a lot we’d like to get ticked off in Europe.’’

The NBA is in talks with The Walt Disney Company on a single-site scenario for a resumption of play in Central Florida in late July, the clearest sign yet that the league believes the US season can continue amid the coronavirus pandemic. The National Basketball Players Association is also part of the talks with Disney, the league said yesterday. Games would be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, a massive campus on the Disney property near Orlando. NBA spokesman Mike Bass said conversations were still ‘‘exploratory,’’ and that the Disney site would be used for practices and housing as well. The NBA suspended its season on March 11, becoming the first of the US major pro leagues to do so. The league has been working on countless return-to-play scenarios for several weeks.
