One new Covid case
There is one new coronavirus case in managed isolation in New Zealand – a man in his 30s who travelled from Pakistan via Dubai on July 10. He is in quarantine at the Sudima Hotel in Rotorua.
Seven additional cases have recovered – 21 active cases remain. The Ministry of Health has reported 1999 confirmed cases to the World Health Organisation (WHO) since the pandemic began. Seventy-seven days have passed since New Zealand recorded its last case of community transmission.
The Ministry of Health has officially changed the criteria around clinical recoveries. At least 10 days must pass since the onset of symptoms or a positive test if they were asymptomatic, and they must be symptom-free for 72 hours.
A review into the virus found it can persist in recovered cases who are no longer infectious.
That was the case for a recently released and recovered case in Auckland.
The person returned a positive Covid-19 test after presenting to Middlemore Hospital for an underlying health condition. They were returned to Auckland’s quarantine facility and reassessed.
