Beach parties send Goa back to lockdown
India’s sunshine state of Goa was the latest to be forced back into lockdown yesterday as coronavirus infections are rising rapidly throughout the country. New cases surged by a record 41,857 yesterday, according to the World Health Organisation, taking India’s national total to 968,876. The health ministry reported 680 deaths in a day, another record. Goa declared a state-wide three-day lockdown yesterday and imposed an evening curfew for the next month, barely a fortnight after announcing that its beaches were reopening for tourism.
